About This Spirit

Black Art Sapero marks a new chapter of Bruichladdich’s coveted Black Art Series. Derived from the Latin verb ‘Sapere’ referring to high discernment and wisdom, Black Art Sapero pays homage to the ancient art of whisky making and lays bare the unparallelled knowledge and skill of the Head Distiller. An enigmatic practice which relies on nature, knowledge and the quiet passing of time, the art of whisky making has captivated and intrigued for centuries. Black Art Sapero is testament to this inimitable mastery, showcasing the extraordinary talent of our Head Distiller, Adam Hannett. Marking a new chapter in the coveted Bruichladdich single malt Scotch whisky series, Black Art Sapero is the latest release from the Hebridean distillery. A Global Travel Retail exclusive, the limited edition 19 Year Old whisky is bottled at 47.8% ABV and uses exceptionally rare, pre-renaissance Bruichladdich stocks, with the casks quietly maturing in the depths of our Islay warehouses for the entirety of their maturation life. Nose: Decadent dark chocolate shavings are immediate on the nose, punctuated with citrus orange zest and a hint of black cherry. As the whisky breathes, sweet figs and dates mingle with toasted oak, inviting aromas of cedar wood and dried fruits. Ground coffee and candied stem ginger add depth and complexity while highlighting a subtle earthy character, balanced with a lavender floral note. Palate: Smooth and luxurious, malted barley, maple syrup and caramelised brown sugar coat the palate, complemented with layered spices. A subtle mineral note cuts through citrus orange peel, dark berries and stoned fruits, with the salty, savoury hit beautifully balancing the overarching sweetness. Cedar wood and warm spices enhance the complex flavour profile. Finish: Long and lingering, warm spices and toasted oak gently fade to leave a hint of dark chocolate and dried fruit. Character: Black Art Sapero marks a new chapter of Bruichladdich’s coveted Black Art Series. Paying homage to the first ever edition of the elusive single malt Scotch whisky, Black Art Sapero is also bottled at 19 Aged Years and reaffirms Black Art’s commitment to innovation and intrigue. Unlocking rare stocks laid down since 2001, together with pre-1994 reserves, Black Art Sapero lays bare the art of the distiller and showcases the profound and inexplicable marriage of spirit, cask and time. Only Adam Hannett knows the definitive recipe, with consumers asked to take a leap of faith and experience a rare and truly unforgettable single malt Scotch whisky.
